Suda Kokuta:
A Lifetime of Mandala
- 30 Years Later
The year 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the artist’s death. Celebrating this special year, we are presenting a virtual solo show of Suda Kokuta (1906-1990), one of the most important post-war artists of Japan. Realising the Zen philosophy is the epitome of abstraction, Suda expressed its inner world by painting abstract works for over 20 years, from 1949 to 1970. The selected pieces in this virtual exhibition represent the height of his artistic expression. Decades after his passing, the energy and vibration imbued in these powerfully spiritual works still continues to captivate the viewer today. We would like to introduce Suda’s interpretation of traditional Zen philosophy as well as his own particular universe expressed through his work whilst on his personal quest for Enlightenment.
