The figure rendered is possibly Li Tieguai, one of the Eight Immortals in Chinese mythology. He is often depicted in an appearance of a beggar with a crutch; his attribute is a gourd, which is hanging from a branch above the immortal on this brush pot. Li’s gourd is said to be full of medicine which is to be dispensed to the sick and the poor.
