A two-fold some-e (batik) silk folding screen by Minagawa Taizo (1917-2005) with the landscape of a sunrise at Uji Kyoto. Byodoin temple can be seen on the lower right hand side.

Japan, 20th century, Shōwa period.

Tomobako (original box) inscribed:

Lid: Uji chyōton (round sunrise at Uji)

Lid interior: Taizō saku (made by Taizō)

Seal: Tai

Note: the back of the screen bears a label which reads: Uji. Minagawa Taizō.
