Product Description

6549 A two-fold paper screen painted in ink and colour on a gold ground with three court ladies reading at leisure. Their young assistant sits next to them, awaiting instruction. A koro (incense burner) placed on a red lacquer tray sits on the shodana (bookshelf) in the background, and a partly-unfurled sudare (bamboo blind) hangs across the top of the painting, giving the impression that the viewer is peeking into this intimate scene.
