Hiroaki Ōta (1933-1991). Born in Aichi prefecture, the centre of shippō (Japanese enamel) manufacture, Ōta studied enamel production and developed a free and expressive style. His work was exhibited at the Nitten and international exhibitions held in both America and France where he received numerous prizes. In 1981 he received a commission for a monumental enamel plaque for the City Hall in Toyota.
